Press Release I-Listening Vol 1

In an effort to improve the quality of the learning process, the Student Association of the Communication Studies Study Program of Padjadjaran University again held an I-Listening Vol #1 activity on Thursday, April 30, 2026. This dialogue forum brings together student representatives from various generations and classes with a team of lecturers teaching courses in an open, participatory, and solution-oriented discussion atmosphere.

The I-Listening activity aims to bridge the aspirations and evaluations between students and lecturers regarding the dynamics that occur during the lecture process. The basis of this discussion was sourced from the results of a survey that had previously been given to the lecturer, then continued with an active dialogue session between the two parties. The discussion in this forum covered various topics, ranging from the evaluation of all courses for the 2023–2025 batch, to non-academic issues such as harassment and sexual violence.

Student Appreciation & Expectations

In the first session, students conveyed various inputs regarding the effectiveness of learning and evaluation methods in the classroom. Some of the aspirations that need to be highlighted in this session include:

  1. Participants of the 2023 forum conveyed several things, including changes in class schedules that should be coordinated directly between the teaching lecturers, learning sessions that exceeded the time limit, and the announcement of supervisors who were informed late in the Kapita Selekta Komunikasi and Seminar courses.
  2. Some participants of the 2024 forum considered that the tempo of delivering material in the Content Analysis Method course was still too fast. However, they appreciated the patience of the lecturers who were responsive, patient, and provided space to ask questions in explaining complex material.
  3. Participants of the 2025 forum conveyed several complaints related to learning in several courses. These complaints include a combined classroom system that is considered ineffective, PPT design of materials that are too dense, monotonous learning and unclear assignment instructions.

Response from Lecturer to Student Input

After the student input was presented, the lecturers also responded to the input. Some of the lecturers’ responses that need to be highlighted in this session include:

  1. Mr. Andika proposed that students who are preparing seminar proposals can consult with other lecturers who are indeed in accordance with their expertise.
  2. Mrs. Jenny admitted that the combined classes and the dense PPT material were considered less effective, so she would evaluate the learning system to make it more effective and comfortable for students.
  3. The lecturers assessed that the I-Listening format which was packaged in the form of an interactive dialogue between student representatives and the lecturer team was more efficient and solutive because there was two-way communication, so it was hoped that this interactive dialogue format could survive and develop in future forums.

Discussion of Non-Academic Issues

In addition to discussing learning evaluation, I-Listening Vol #2 also highlights the issue of sexual harassment and violence in the campus environment. Some students revealed that they had only heard of this issue happening in other faculties and had never heard of this issue happening in the Communication Studies study program.

The lecturer and the students agreed that this issue is personal, so students are advised to contact the guardian lecturer or lecturer concerned directly so that the handling is more effective. The lecturers also emphasized that the entire academic community of Communication Sciences, both lecturers and students, should not normalize jokes, including jokes that contain elements of discrimination. In response to this, Mr. Andika emphasized that the study program will follow up on this issue seriously in order to create a safe and comfortable academic environment for all academics. In addition, he encouraged students to report directly to the head of the study program or guardian lecturer if they experience or find a similar case. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining healthy communication and mutual respect between academics.

The I-Listening Vol #2 activity is in line with the commitment of the Communication Science Study Program Unpad in supporting the achievement  of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4 on Quality Education. With the existence of a dialogue space between students and lecturers, this activity is not only a means of conveying aspirations, but also a tangible manifestation of transparency, participation, and collaboration in the development of a more equitable and adaptive education system.
