Padjadjaran Communication Science Study Program officially started the Empowerment Communication Course Practicum which was carried out by Communication Science students of the class of 2023 in Cileles Village for eight weeks, starting April 30, 2026. This activity is part of the implementation of field-practice-based learning which aims to strengthen students’ understanding of the process of direct empowerment communication in the community.
In its implementation, Communication Science students of the class of 2023 will work on 10 empowerment themes that are tailored to the needs and potential of the people of Cileles Village. The themes include sanitation, environment, social media, health, political economy, social, fisheries, animal husbandry, agricultural technology, and agriculture. Through this activity, students are expected to not only be able to apply the knowledge that has been learned during lectures, but also to make a real contribution through a participatory and collaborative approach with the village community.
The opening activity was also attended by the Cileles Village apparatus represented by the village government sector and a number of leading sectors from local community elements. The presence of students was also accompanied by lecturers in the Empowerment Communication Course, namely Dr. Hadi Suprapto Arifin, M.Si., Ikhsan Fuady, S.IP., M.Si., and Nadia Febriani, S.I.Kom., M.Si. The presence of various parties in this activity is a form of support for the learning process that prioritizes active involvement between academics and the community.
This empowerment program is also in line with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 which raises Quality Education, SDG 11 related to sustainable cities and communities, and SDG 17 which raises the existence of partnerships to achieve common goals. It is hoped that students can develop critical thinking skills, social empathy, and adaptive communication skills in dealing with community dynamics directly.
Through this empowerment communication practicum activity, students are expected to be able to become agents of change who are not only present as program implementers, but also as community partners in encouraging empowerment and sustainable development. The spirit of collaboration, service, and social care is expected to continue to grow as part of the real contribution of the academic community of Communication Studies at Padjadjaran University to the community.
