National Undergraduate Day: Bachelor of Communication Science Responsibilities

National Undergraduate Day is commemorated every 29th of September to appreciate Indonesians who are currently striving to get a Bachelor’s degree and also those who already became undergraduates. This commemoration started in 2014 by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The reason behind September 29 is because it coincides with the birthdate of Raden Mas Panji Sosrokartono, the first Indonesian who got a Bachelor’s degree. It is hoped that hIs hardworking personality and thirst for knowledge can inspire the would-be undergraduates in Indonesia.

Universitas Padjadjaran’s Communication Science Study Programme offers a chance for people to become a Bachelor of Communication Science. Individuals who have successfully proven that they’re worthy of the title are presented with various options in which they can contribute to the country. These options are summarised in three types of Communication Science career paths, namely, Scientific Communication Professional, Digital Communication Planner, and Social Entrepreneur.

Raden Muhammad Ciptaning Hanif, a class of 2018 Universitas Padjadjaran Communication Science’s alumnus, shared his thoughts on National Undergraduate Day. He said that becoming an undergraduate means that an individual is ready to take on huge responsibilities as a citizen of Indonesia. An undergraduate is not just another worker whose life revolves around gaining profit for themselves, but they also have to empower a lot of people by providing something that can be useful for them and be a solution to their problems. He chose to be a Bachelor of Communication Science because of its wide scope, therefore he can apply the knowledge he acquired to a lot of jobs like Public Relations, Marketing Communication, Corporate Communication, and more. He also thinks that knowledge about communication makes his job as an influencer easier because of his familiarity with the media.

National Undergraduate Day is a reminder for Indonesians about the importance of knowledge. It is hoped that Raden Mas Panji Sosrokartono can inspire students who are currently fighting to get a degree. On the other hand, it is hoped that undergraduates can use the knowledge in their hands to help develop this country. Happy National Undergraduate Day! (Ed)
