Nyepi Day, which falls on March 29, 2025, is a moment of deep reflection for Hindus in Indonesia, especially in Bali. Different from other celebrations that are synonymous with crowds, Nyepi invites people to settle down in total silence for 24 hours. Daily activities are halted, airports are closed, roads are deserted without vehicles, and lights are turned off. This tradition is not just a ritual, but a form of spiritual contemplation to cleanse the soul, maintain the balance of nature, and start the new Saka year with a calmer and more peaceful consciousness.
Interestingly, Nyepi is now not only the property of Hindus, but also a space of collective contemplation for the wider community. Many tourists and non-Hindu residents in Bali also honor this holy day by staying indoors, enjoying the rare tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life. Nyepi seems to be a pause that reminds us that even in silence, there is deep meaning.
The academic community of Communication Science Study Programme wishes you a happy Nyepi Day 2025! May good things come into our lives in this meaningful year! [Ed]
