Giovanno, Bringing Pride to Ilkom with the Title of Putra Advokasi Padjadjaran

Hi Ilkomers! Often, big changes begin the moment we dare to step out of our comfort zone. That’s exactly what happened to Giovanno Dzaar De Ussy Whandyra, a 2024 Communication Studies student better known as Gio. In the midst of his busy academic life, Gio embarked on a long journey that led him to represent the Faculty of Communication in the Putra Putri Padjadjaran competition, where he achieved a remarkable feat by becoming a top 7 finalist while also earning the title of Putra Advokasi Padjadjaran.

It all began when Gio was crowned Putra Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi 2025 last June. From there, his journey continued to the university level. For Gio, joining the competition wasn’t about prestige, it was about learning, expanding his perspective, and sharing positive impact. He believes that the knowledge and experiences one gains shouldn’t stop at oneself, but should also bring value to others. His participation became a way to contribute to the academic community and spread the spirit of kindness.

The Putra Advokasi title holds deep meaning for Gio. He sees advocacy as a tangible effort to create change, a bridge that connects problems to solutions. To him, advocacy isn’t about who speaks the loudest, but about who consistently acts and fights for what’s right in their surroundings.

Throughout the process, Gio realized that his greatest challenge wasn’t competing with others, but overcoming himself. He learned to face expectations, conquer self-doubt, and become the best version of himself. His experience at the faculty level became a solid foundation for his journey to Putra Putri Padjadjaran. Of course, the road wasn’t always smooth—fear and uncertainty often came during the selection and quarantine stages. Yet, meeting finalists from various faculties turned into a precious moment that strengthened his confidence and sense of togetherness. Through it all, Gio learned that what truly matters isn’t the result, but the process itself.

From this journey, Gio discovered that every opportunity comes hand in hand with responsibility and courage. Things don’t always go as planned, but sincerity in moving forward makes every step feel lighter. His experience at Putra Putri Padjadjaran taught him that true success isn’t defined by titles, but by the process of becoming stronger, more genuine, and more impactful.

Gio’s spirit also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Through his role as Putra Advokasi, Gio shows that young people can be agents of change, championing good values, standing for justice, and building a more empowered community.
