What’s On I-Mpowerment?

On November 15, 2025, the Communication Science Student Association (Hima Ilkom) of the Makna Kita Cabinet carried out a new work program from the Department of KPSDM (Kaderisasi & Pengembangan Sumber Daya Mahasiswa) called I-Mpowerment. This program is an innovative initiative introduced by the chair and vice chair of the cabinet. Through I-Mpowerment, participants were equipped with critical-thinking skills and a leadership-oriented mindset. They were not only trained as event executors but also learned how to make decisions, manage teams, and understand the roles and dynamics of an organization. The main goal of this program is to prepare staff members to be ready to continue the leadership succession of Hima Ilkom in the next period.

The event, which was held at Building 2 of Fikom Unpad, began with a leadership-sharing session delivered directly by the Chair of Hima, Muhammadafi Mulantara. The agenda then continued with department-based FGD (Focus Group Discussion) sessions. In these discussions, each department was asked to provide critiques and formulate solutions for all existing work programs in Hima. The discussion results were later presented to department heads and vice heads to receive input and feedback, ensuring that every idea could be considered more thoroughly and constructively.

Gizza Aufaa Naqiyya, often called Jey, who served as the event coordinator, shared that the preparation process was both the most memorable and the most challenging part. Since I-Mpowerment was a completely new program, the team initially felt uncertain. They didn’t yet have a clear picture of the program’s direction or structure. Various discussions, concept revisions, and trial-and-error processes had to be taken to keep the program aligned with the goals of cadre formation. Although the process demanded a lot of energy and required multiple adjustments, these dynamics ultimately offered valuable lessons, enriched everyone’s experience, and strengthened the sense of unity and teamwork within the department. Direct support and guidance from department heads, division heads, as well as the chair and vice chair of Hima Ilkom also helped resolve the challenges they encountered, allowing the entire preparation phase to run more smoothly.

Overall, I-Mpowerment successfully achieved its objectives. This is evident from the emergence of two prospective pairs of candidates for the next Hima Ilkom chair and vice chair through this program. Jey also shared her reflections and messages for participants, expressing hopes that all the materials delivered would have a long-lasting impact—not only in organizational settings but also beyond Hima Ilkom. She appreciated the participants’ active involvement throughout the event, particularly in the interactive discussion and Q&A sessions. The critiques, input, and solutions shared by the participants are expected to serve as evaluation materials and as a foundation for refining future work programs.

This activity also aligns with the 4th point of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education, which emphasizes the importance of inclusive and equitable education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. Through open discussions and active student participation, the program fostered a lively and inclusive learning environment. The emergence of two candidate pairs for future Hima leadership further demonstrates how the program encouraged students to take part in democratic processes.
