Swinging Dreams from Campus Benches to the Southeast Asian Stage

Hi Ilkomers! Have you ever imagined what it feels like to be both a university student and a national athlete? Especially when that athlete is trusted to represent Indonesia on an international stage. This experience is truly lived by one of the students from the Communication Science Study Program at Universitas Padjadjaran. She is Bianca Naomi Amina Laksono, a Communication Science student from the class of 2023, who represented Indonesia in the golf event at the 2025 SEA Games. Curious about her story? Let’s take a look at her inspiring journey!

Bianca Naomi Amina Laksono, commonly known as Bianca, is one of the members of the Indonesian women’s national golf team along with two other athletes. Through hard work and strong teamwork, they successfully won the bronze medal in the women’s team golf event at the 2025 SEA Games. Bianca shared that she was directly appointed by the Indonesian Golf Association to strengthen the national team. For her, this opportunity was a very valuable experience and an important step in her career as a professional golfer.

However, the journey to the 2025 SEA Games was far from easy. Bianca explained that the preparation process was intense and challenging. She had to participate in several international tournaments as a way to evaluate her abilities and adapt to global competition standards. In addition, Bianca also underwent an intensive two week training camp with the national team. The preparation did not only drain her physically and mentally, but also required significant academic sacrifices. She even had to give up attending classes for two months to fully focus on training and competition.

Winning a medal at such a prestigious event is certainly a proud achievement, yet Bianca admitted that the biggest challenge came from mental pressure. She felt that the burden was much heavier because she was no longer competing for herself, but carrying the name of Indonesia. Moreover, the level of competition at the 2025 SEA Games was extremely high, as it involved top athletes from various Southeast Asian countries with strong international experience and extensive competitive backgrounds. She also added that the course layout was tough, demanding high shot accuracy, well planned strategies, and consistent performance on every hole. These conditions meant that even small mistakes could significantly affect the final score.

Despite the challenges, Bianca remains grateful for what she and her team have achieved. One of the most memorable moments for her was the crucial final stage of maintaining third place, when the point difference with the fourth ranked team was only one point. At that moment, Bianca and her teammates felt a mix of tension, emotion, and relief, until they finally secured their position and stepped onto the podium to bring home a bronze medal for Indonesia.

Beyond athletic achievement, Bianca’s story is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, Good Health and Well Being, and Goal 4, Quality Education. Her role as both a student and a national athlete shows that maintaining physical and mental health can go hand in hand with a strong commitment to education. Bianca’s dedication in balancing academics and sports highlights the importance of supporting young generations so they can grow, achieve, and contribute in a sustainable way.
