Last month, the Communication Science Study Programme achieved good news from students who won competitions from the academic field. Besides surviving academically in class, these students could balance academic competitions and nailed them.
Bening Putri Nabilla is a class of 2023 Communication Science student who won the first place of Speech Competition held by Spectrum Universitas Sebelas Maret 2024. Bening felt the importance of implementing skills that she learned from the Public Speaking course in the second semester. This motivated her to compete in the speech competition. Her main speech was about maintaining traditional languages as national heritage and the role of youth in preserving Indonesia’s heritage. The competition’s timeline was the same as the Midterm Exam, therefore Bening needed extra hard-work in nailing both. From this competition, she learned that we should be brave to try new challenges. Bening stated that sometimes, the fear of starting something new will only limit our potential.
Nisrina Athira Fatin, Dafina Shafa Salsabil, and Marshafinna Rayya Rasidan are class of 2022 Communication Science students who won the second place of Essay Competition held by Litfest Brawijaya 2024. This team wrote an essay about innovation in preserving and promoting Indonesia’s traditions and customs through OzaNusa, a digital application in the form of a traditional calendar. Nisrina, Dafina, and Rayya’s motivation in joining this competition was to evaluate their writing skills that were often practiced in the Communication Science courses. As they had different activities, finding the perfect schedule to discuss and share progress about the essay was their challenge. From this competition, Nisrina, Dafina, and Rayya learned to be more aware of research skills and time management. They mentioned that longer time was needed to do research about their main topic for the essay.
Hopefully, the achievements can turn into an inspiration for all students of Communication Science Study Programme Universitas Padjadjaran! One of them for students to be more enthusiastic in implementing courses through competitions in numerous fields. (Ed)
