Relevance of Communication Science Courses in the Working Field: Experience and Inspiration from Alumni

Have you ever wondered if the classes you’re taking in college will actually be useful when you get a job? This is a common question, especially for Communication Science students at Universitas Padjadjaran. The experiences from many former students show that what they learned in college can be a solid foundation for their careers. Let’s see what these alumni had to say!

Azizul Rahman is one of those alumni. He studied Communication Science at Unpad and graduated in 2016. He said that Communication Science courses are useful and applicable to his work. Azizul stated that courses like public speaking and research methods are very important for getting a job. Azizul advised all Communication Science students to be the link between ideas and actions, facts and opinions, and problems and solutions. “You are the one who makes the world understand each other better,” he said with confidence. This showed how important Communication Science graduates are in different fields.

Dzikrifa Nintyas Aliifa is an alumnus of Communication Science at Universitas Padjadjaran, class of 2016. As a professional researcher, Dzikrifa recognized that Communication Science courses are very relevant to her current work. She felt lucky to get a job that matches what Communication Science graduates do.Dzikrifa said that the research methods courses, both quantitative and qualitative, are very useful. With three credits each, these courses not only taught her how to do research, but also improved her ability to review literature, which is now the foundation of her work.

Dzikrifa also gave an important message for students who are still confused about finding their way after graduation, “Start looking for what you like the most and what you can do. Make connections, because it’s very important—with teachers, other students, and friends. You can graduate and succeed!”

Last but not least, Yanuar Banu, a class of 2017 Communication Science graduate from. Banu has a unique view on the benefits of Communication Science courses. He believed that each course has its own benefits, depending on the momentum of life. Currently, he often reread materials from courses such as mass communication & media, campaign & propaganda, and media criticism. “They have become a kind of thinking platform that helps me in my work at the multimedia design studio. Mainly, I often remember the idea that ‘the medium is the message,'” Banu stated.

Banu also advised Communication Science students to continue exploring outside the classroom. “The more we meet new people, learn new things, and gain experience, the better our communication science will be. Basically, Communication Science is a support system for other scientific fields. Find a field that you really like, and it can become your playground,” he said.

Azizul, Dzikrifa, and Banu’s stories showed that Unpad Communication Science courses are relevant in many different ways, depending on how graduates use the knowledge. Public speaking skills, in-depth research, understanding of the media, and exploring different fields can all help you have a great career.

Studying Communication Science at Unpad can be hard, but these alumni show that what you learn is useful. You need to be willing to keep learning, adapting, and making connections. In the world of work, Communication Science is about more than just theory. It’s about how we can connect the world.
