The Communication Science Study Programme at Universitas Padjadjaran extends its warmest congratulations and highest appreciation to the students of the 2023 cohort for their outstanding achievements in the final project of the Risk and Crisis Communication course. Through a project-based assignment involving Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and educational posters, students successfully raised awareness on crucial issues related to health, the environment, and disaster preparedness. This project served as a platform for idea realization as well as a hands-on learning experience to apply impactful and socially relevant risk communication strategies.
One of the most notable projects, crowned as Overall Best PSA, came from a group that highlighted the issue of flooding in Dayeuhkolot. After conducting field research, the group discovered that many residents viewed flooding as a normal and acceptable occurrence. Rahma Pratiwi, one of the group members, explained, “We were concerned that this mindset leads to apathy, when in fact, this is a crisis that must be taken seriously.”
By packaging the PSA in the form of a short emotional drama, the team aimed to spark greater awareness and preparedness among the local community regarding recurring floods. Their biggest challenge was designing a Message Map that could be easily understood by the target audience. Rahma added that consultations with lecturers and internal group discussions were key to their success. The project ran smoothly thanks to collaborative efforts and role distribution based on each member’s strengths. The team hopes their work will inspire real action and shift public perception, so that flooding is no longer underestimated.
Meanwhile, from Class A, the group Vapebusters was also nominated among the best works for their PSA and poster on vape use among university students. Group leader M. Haikal shared that they chose this topic because many students still perceive vaping as a safe and trendy lifestyle. “The risks are actually significant. We wanted to convey that message in a relatable, non-preachy, yet impactful way,” he said. Their creative process involved extensive brainstorming, discussions with lecturers, and drawing inspiration from series and films. The result was an educational yet light and entertaining piece with a core message: “Stay hype without the vape.”
