Communication Science Student’s Contribution for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Since 1977, the world commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This commemoration was created by the United Nations General Assembly to generate attention and support from nations in the UN towards Palestine. This is important because Palestinians still doesn’t have the right to freedom, the right to decide their own fate, and the right to come back to their homes and belongings.

Zhafira Ardya Paramesti Wirawan, a class of 2024 Communication Science student, shared her experience in giving support for Palestinians. She said that she usually gives support in the form of donations or gifts for the people in Palestine. She also boycotted products that are affiliated with Israel and helped spread the word to boycott.“It may not have a big impact… yet, but I still try to consistently spread awareness through social media by saving, liking, leaving a comment, and sharing or reposting posts related to Palestine to influence the algorithm,” said Zhafira. Aside from that, Zhafira also answered a call for action and participated in a campaign to support Palestine.

Zhafira thinks that we all should contribute in supporting Palestine by spreading the word to others, whether verbally or through text, online or offline. News from Palestine will never recede, which is why we should spread information regarding Palestine so that they will be known by a lot of people.

Zhafira hopes that this year’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People can make people realise that the genocide in Palestine is an universal issue and not a religious one, instead it’s a war on our humanity. She also hopes that the commemoration can be a moment for all of us to grow interest in contributing for the freedom of Palestine. Happy International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People!
