Indonesia commemorates October 1 as Pancasila Sanctity Day. This moment serves as a reminder for all citizens that Pancasila is the foundation of the state as well as a guiding principle for maintaining unity, facing challenges, and building a just and civilized national life.
Pancasila Sanctity Day is often mistaken for Pancasila Day. As the name suggests, Pancasila Day is commemorated as the birth of the Pancasila concept, first introduced by Ir. Soekarno on June 1, 1945. Meanwhile, according to Radio Republik Indonesia, Pancasila Sanctity Day has a historical background closely related to the events of the September 30th Movement in 1965 (G30S/PKI). The incident was a real threat to the state ideology (Ina, 2025). However, Pancasila, as the foundation and ideology of Indonesia, managed to withstand and overcome the threat.
More than just remembering past events, Pancasila Sanctity Day also calls upon the Indonesian people to reaffirm their commitment to the values of Pancasila amidst the challenges of the times. This commemoration is not only a historical reflection but also a momentum to strengthen the belief that Pancasila remains relevant as the nation’s guiding principle. The rapid flow of information, technological development, and social changes demand that every citizen continue to live by Pancasila values in everyday life.
For the academic community of Communication Studies, Pancasila Sanctity Day serves as a reminder that communication plays an essential role in maintaining unity and strengthening solidarity. Through inclusive, ethical, and constructive communication, the values of Pancasila can be passed down across generations and serve as a foundation for facing global challenges.
