Every June 5th, the world commemorates World Environment Day a moment to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the Earth, our shared home.
In 2025, this commemoration feels even more urgent. While environmental issues like plastic waste and climate change remain widely discussed, new concerns have emerged, including the increasing exploitation of natural resources that often go unnoticed. Illegal logging, industrial pollution, and the grabbing of natural resources are serious problems that tend to benefit a select few, while the broader community and the environment bear the consequences.
Iwan, a Communication Science student from the class of 2022, emphasized the importance of awareness and critical thinking in facing these challenges.
“As students, we need to have a critical perspective on environmental issues, especially considering how many there are today. We shouldn’t stay silent when we witness harmful practices, particularly environmental exploitation that benefits only a few,” he said.
His statement serves as a reminder that caring for the environment is not just about eco-friendly lifestyles, but also about having the courage to speak out against the destruction of nature.
Just as the Earth has given us so much, now it’s our turn to protect and care for it. World Environment Day is not only a call to love nature but also an opportunity to reshape how we live to become more mindful, critical, and responsible individuals.
Happy World Environment Day! [Ed]
