I-Ducate is a work program under the Department of Academics and Profession (Akprof) of HIMA Communication Studies. The program was initiated out of concern for the difficulties students face in dealing with third-semester courses. Based on a questionnaire distributed by Akprof, Communication Studies students found Survey Method and Social Statistics to be the two most challenging courses. Therefore, students expressed the need for additional guidance on these subjects. However, I-Ducate focuses on mentoring sessions that serve as a space for consultation in preparing scientific articles, rather than re-teaching the courses.
In 2025, I-Ducate involved several mentors from the 2023 cohort, including Muhammad Haikal Feri Putra, Verlyn Christiana Sumampouw, Chalidha Azmi Verdian, and Muhammadafi Mulantara. In addition, Reyhan Tristan Syah and Rafi Ahmad Zaidan, as the head and vice head of the department, also accompanied the students as mentors. Each mentor guided eleven students from the 2024 cohort, forming six major groups in total. The program also involved one of Akprof’s staff members, Gede Pramana Dickpala Sandi, who served as the main person in charge, accompanied by Tristan and Zaidan as supervisors.

Before the program began, Akprof conducted an evaluation of the previous year’s implementation to identify aspects that needed improvement. The team then developed an attendance system, an evaluation forum, and a flexible curriculum for the mentors. The process continued with an interest survey, recruitment of mentors and mentees, group division, and regular evaluations by the vice head of the department. At the end of the program, mentors received honoraria and certificates of appreciation as recognition for their contribution.
I-Ducate was held in three offline sessions at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. The first session, held from September 25 to October 3, 2025, focused on mentor–mentee introductions and midterm preparation. The second session, from October 18 to 30, centered on improving literature reviews and sampling methods. The final session, from November 3 to 10, aimed to finalize the articles before submission to academic journals.
The I-Ducate series serves as a form of peer-to-peer support in addressing academic challenges. It is specifically designed to help 2024 Communication Studies students adapt to research-related courses that are still new to them. The program is expected to help students better understand the research process and maintain their academic motivation.
Tristan hopes that I-Ducate can become a collaborative learning platform aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. The program is also expected to strengthen peer relationships in fostering a supportive, sustainable, and collaborative academic environment. Ultimately, the goal is for I-Ducate to grow beyond an annual program and become a learning culture that nurtures academic solidarity within Communication Studies at Universitas Padjadjaran.
